ENVIRONMENT & SUSTAINABILITY BACHELOR OF ARTS DEGREE
A deep understanding of environmental issues and a passion to find innovative solutions will open doors to meaningful careers in education, climate change policy and environmental science. Learn the skills and science behind solving the most pressing environmental issues of today and in the future.
Climate Action Planning Emphasis
As the impacts of climate change are realized more each year, it becomes increasingly necessary to have ambitious, hopeful, and innovative professionals dedicated to helping mitigate these changes through current and future plans of action. Though climate change and its effects can seem overwhelming, the Climate Action Planning emphasis will equip you with the research, resources and policy development tactics you need to professionally guide both current and future generations toward a sustainable and healthy planet.
Food Systems Emphasis
Built on a foundation of improving equity for all communities, the Food Systems emphasis equips you with the skills to improve and stabilize food systems, alleviate hunger, and identify entrepreneurial opportunities in a rapidly changing sector. You’ll examine a variety of approaches to creating food security and challenge yourself to improve existing food systems through applying current research to practices maintained locally, nationally, and globally.
Water Studies Emphasis
The Water Studies emphasis provides a holistic approach to the history, politics, economics and science of water. To gain valuable hands-on experience, you’ll also have the opportunity to find a research assistantship at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory, one of the premier biological research stations in the world. As one of the few undergraduate interdisciplinary water programs in the nation, the Water Studies emphasis is a unique opportunity to gain a broad foundation in this field. Through the program, you’ll acquire the knowledge and skills you’ll need to play an increasingly important role in scientific community as a hydrologist or water conservationist.
Public Land Management Emphasis
The Public Land Management emphasis focuses on helping you learn the content and skills necessary for understanding and facilitating sustainable use of public lands. The emphasis will look specifically at management issues through the lens of environmental resilience, understanding how public lands agencies can build upon the land’s adaptive capacity in the face of climate, ecosystem and socioeconomic change.
This engaging and hands-on emphasis will prepare you for a variety of opportunities after graduation, including further education, careers with public lands agencies, careers that engage with private land conservation and conservation advocacy.
